Build a an open data platform for the Tuscany Region, capable of making over 12,000 datasets from 97 Tuscan public bodies accessible. Guarantee administrative transparency and compliance with European standards, facilitating access to public data for citizens, businesses, researchers and developers.
Our response
A portal that ranks among the top in Italy for the number of published datasets, with over 180,000 views and 30,000 downloads annually. A data architecture compliant with the DCAT-AP_IT standard defined by AgID, integrated with Google Dataset Search to maximise the visibility and discoverability of public information.
Browsing by theme — from transport to the environment
The information architecture organises datasets into 12 macro-themes (Environment, Regions & cities, Government & public sector, Science & technology, Transport, Economy & finance, Energy, Education, culture & sport, Population & society, Health, Agriculture, Justice & public safety), each with specific filters and dedicated browsing paths. The UX was designed to address the needs of diverse audiences: citizens looking for local information, companies requiring economic data, researchers interested in environmental time series. The interface highlights the most visited datasets and presents summary indicators – total datasets, views, downloads – that communicate the service’s effectiveness and authority.
DCAT-AP_IT standard and national interoperability
The portal, built with the CKAN data management system, adopts the DCAT-AP_IT standard for dataset metadata, ensuring interoperability with the national catalogue dati.gov.it and European research systems. Integration with Google Dataset Search amplifies data discoverability through general-purpose search engines. The infrastructure manages automated harvesting flows from 97 Tuscan public bodies, ensuring continuous updates and consistent metadata. Performance is optimised to handle over 12,000 datasets and guarantee fast search and download response times.
