The goal
Rethink the Foundation’s brand identity to resolve a recognition problem: two hospitals (Pisa and Massa), a research centre (IFC-CNR) and several different acronyms made it difficult to perceive “Monasterio” as a single entity. Organise the digital presence through a website that addresses the needs of different audiences: patients, doctors, researchers and institutional stakeholders.
Our response
A new, concise name — Fondazione Monasterio — and a clear domain: monasterio.it. A claim that sums up the mission: “la ricerca che cura” (“research that heals”). A visual identity rooted in the Pisan Romanesque stone inlays: overlapping hearts beating in a red dot, the point where care intervenes. A website built through a co-design process with staff, enriched by editorial formats designed for different users.

From Pisan stone inlays to a mark that unites research and care
The visual identity stems from a connection to the territory: the stone inlays of Pisan Romanesque churches — architectural elements born of mathematical calculation, rich in symbolic value. From this came the idea of overlapping hearts beating in a red dot, a visual synthesis of research and care. The site redesign involved interviews with key figures, staff and patients: an analytical process that revealed an institution where the patient is truly at the centre.

A project in progress — co-design and information architecture
The site was built on a CMS to ensure scalability and editorial autonomy. The modular structure allows the gradual integration of new editorial formats: from narratives on the conditions treated to in-depth pieces on research. An architecture designed to grow with the Foundation, maintaining communicative coherence and ease of use for internal teams and end users.

Editorial formats to tell the story of everyday work
The site is not just an institutional showcase but a narrative space in continuous evolution. Dedicated formats tell the stories of clinical excellence, patient experiences and research projects. The co-design process produced content oriented around concrete answers: from information for patients to opportunities for researchers, from scientific events to ways of supporting the Foundation.
